Black Solidarity Day is the 57 year old tradition started by Brooklyn College Professor Dr Carlos Russel. This day calls on all Black people to boycott work, school, shopping and any economic participation each year on the Monday before Election Day. This boycott is called in order to remind the world of the power of the Black community. The United States was built on our backs, and we continue to hold it up with our labor in every day jobs, shopping and votes.
By withdrawing from the economy for one day, we show that the same governmental and corporate systems that continually oppress and kill us would not be able to exist without the value they exploit from Black peoples.

The BSD Committee invites all of the diverse Brooklyn College community to observe this tradition in solidarity with us this year on campus with a full day of food and activities!
