In honor of Black History Month, we will be hosting our 2nd annual CUNY-wide Vogue Ball. The “ballroom scene” is a vibrant subculture within the LGBTQ+ community born in the undergrounds of New York City. Historically, these spaces served as safe havens for LGBTQ+ people. Balls celebrated of the culture at a time when it was dangerous to be openly queer on the streets. Through extravagant performances and fashion, LGBTQ+ people challenged societal norms on gender and sexuality through fashion and gender expression. At the center of ballroom culture were Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ people. Join us to celebrate our Black and Brown ancestors and their legacies. This year's theme will be Dandyism: Tailoring Black Style, inspired by the Met Gala and exhibit Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
