oin us for an engaging talk exploring one of the fundamental structures in abstract algebra: finite fields.
A finite field is a set in which the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are all defined and behave according to consistent mathematical rules. One of the most important and commonly studied examples of finite fields arises from the integers modulo p, where p is a prime number.
In this session, a professor will break down what finite fields are, why they matter, and how they show up in areas like cryptography, coding theory, and modern mathematics.
Whether you're currently studying math or just curious about how abstract algebra connects to real-world applications, this talk is a great opportunity to learn something new in an accessible setting.
