Due to a clause in our constitution that requires elected officers in the club's E-Board to be matriculated undergraduate students, I, Andre Howell am no longer eligible to be the club's Vice-President. Since I have graduated in Spring 2023, and will be attending as a graduate student in Fall 2023, I am no longer able to hold office. The constitution does not currently allow graduate students to hold E-Board positions. However, I will still be involved as an Alumni Rep/Officer of the club's Alumni Chapter.
From August 25th to September 29th the window for special elections will take place for unfilled E-Board positions. If anyone wishes to nominate themselves or nominate another person for the Vice-President position you can email brooklynphilosophysociety@gmail.com , or you can declare your candidacy privately to an officer in the Discord/Whatsapp chats, or publicly in the general chats.
Summer Update
Hello fellow philosophers of Brooklyn College, there are a couple of things you should know (and be excited about) for the upcoming semester.
Constitution Ammendments:
The club's constitution has been ammended! The original 6-7 page document has been fortified with 10 pages of additional articles and sections. No need to ruin your summer by reading a 17 page document though, here are the major changes you need to know:
The Philosophy Society will now have an Alumni Chapter. The Alumni Chapter consists of past members of the BC Philosophy Society that have graduated. The chapter will also have its own officers which will be appointed with the approval of our faculty advisor and elected E-Board. If you're a senior that is graduating or has already graduated you can still attend events as a member and even hold a position as an Alumni Officer/Rep.
Deputy Officers: You can hold a position as a deputy officer with limited privileges. As outlined in the constitution deputy officers, upon completion of their term or tasks are acknowledged by both the E-Board and faculty advisor with either letters of recommendation or other forms of acknowledgement.
